Squadra di Canto

“Squadra di Canto” portraits a singers group in the outskirts of Genoa. The eight singers of the group perform a typical Genovese vocal folk music without the help of instruments, entitled Trallalero. The Trallalero is a style of music without any written scores, so actually the singers learn style, intonation, melody and lyrics through oral repetition alone. In this regard the Trallalero can be understood as an embodiment and passing on of distinctive acoustic characteristics of language, class, culture, tradition and musical styles, through the voice of the singers. Highlighting this certain technique of cultural transition, the video presents each voice separately and gives the viewer the opportunity to witness the process
