Unsought goods are goods for which there is little interest, as consumers either do not know about their existence or find them annoying and therefore reject them emotionally. In this sense, Sebastian Six examines our consumption-oriented society, using sound, sculpture and video to transform the exhibition space into an absurd shopping world.

Another circuit bending project. This beauty was build during the Covid 19 lock down in March 2020. Tow toy piano chips are randomly combined there is a build in speaker and a out put jack.

Recordings of a digital „shelf configurator“ were combined with sound recordings of various ASMR packaging videos and projected onto packaging material in the exhibition space.



Firedrake (Radio Edit)

Based on a multi-media installation, Firedrake (radio edit) examines attempts of the Chinese government to censor foreign short wave radio stations (also called jamming) and methods to avoid these interferences by manipulating radios. By constantly playing an one hour long piece of Chinese folk music entitled
“Firedrake“, radio stations such as Voice of America, Radio Free Asia and BBC World Service are muted by the Chinese authorities. In order to bypass Chinese jamming DIY adaptations of radios, so called anti-jamming antennas are used. The multiple materials needed for these antennas are the starting point for an acoustic improvisation that can be heard in this piece. In addition, excerpts from an interview on jamming activities of the Chinese government, recordings from shortwave radio stations and the original Chinese Firedrake broadcast are part of this composition.

Commissioned by the OK Linz for the exhibition Wunderkammer Oberösterreich – „El Dorado ob der Enns“, the two artists Laurien Bachmann and Sebastian Six embark on an unusual audiovisual search for gold in the Upper Austrian Provincial Archive. The archives they find there under this term are digitized and linked to a spoken text level. Two computer voices read out the terms from „Goldwörth“ to „Goldwasch-WM“ and thus support the visual level of the two gold prospectors.

Für die Videoarbeit „Prospektion (OÖLA) begeben sich die beiden KünstlerInnen Laurien Bachmann und Sebastian Six auf eine ungewöhnliche Goldsuche ins oberösterreichische Landesarchiv. Die Archivalien die sie dort unter dem Schlagwort „Gold“ fanden, wurden digitalisiert und mit den dazugehörigen Beschreibung akustisch verknüpft. Zwei Computerstimmen lesen die dargestellten Begriffe von „Goldwörth“ bis „Goldwasch-WM“ und öffnen die bildliche Ebene des Materials. So werden Assoziationsketten zwischen den verschiedenen historischen Archivalien zu einem absurden Goldrausch verknüpft.

Oh Condor

The acoustic basis of the sound performance by Sebastian Six and Laurien Bachmann is the world-famous song „el condor pasa“. Originally based on a Peruvian folk song called „Soy la paloma que el nido perdió“ from the 18th century, it has been revised and covered many times since then and has become an acoustic „cliché“ of South America over the years. Bachmann and Six now try to experimentally explore this media shift and partly also colonial appropriation of the original folk song through their performance and to acoustically emphasize and analogously alienate reference points of the song. A growing collection of recordings of the same song is played on several turntables during the performance. Using various audio effects, excerpts from the song are combined into an infinite drone. The condor flies forever.

Akustische Grundlage der Sound Performance von Sebastian Six und Laurien Bachmann bildet das weltweit bekannte Lied „el condor pasa“. Ursprünglich auf einem peruanischen Volkslied unter dem Titel „Soy la paloma que el nido perdió“ aus dem 18. Jahrhundert basierend, wurde dieses seither viele Male überarbeitet und gecovert und so über die Jahre zu einem akustischen „Klischee“ Südamerikas. Diese mediale Verschiebung und teils auch koloniale Aneignung des ursprünglichen Volksliedes versuchen Bachmann und Six nun durch ihre Performance experimentell zu erforschen und Referenzpunkte des Liedes akustisch hervorzuheben und analog zu verfremden. Eine wachsende Sammlung von Aufnahmen desselben Songs wird während der Aufführung auf mehreren Plattenspielern gespielt. Durch verschiedene Audioeffekte werden Ausschnitte aus dem Song zu einem unendlichen Drone zusammengefügt. Der Kondor fliegt für immer.

The exhibition „Continental Drift“ focuses on the geodynamic movements of the supposedly rigid earth, the fixed notions of the borders based on them, and their cultural and historical effects. The South American continent, its variable landscapes and its in- habitants is a particular anchor point. The participating international artists explore spaces acoustically, cinematically, photographically and linguistically, and thus explore the mentioned aspects

In der Ausstellung „Continental Drift“ werden geodynamische Bewegungen der vermeintlich starren Erde, die darauf basierenden fixierten Vorstellungen von Grenzen sowie deren kulturell historische Auswirkungen thematisiert. Ankerpunkt hierbei bildet insbesondere der Südamerikanische Kontinent, dessen wandelbare Landschaften und seine BewohnerInnen. Die teilnehmenden internationalen KünstlerInnen loten akustisch, filmisch, fotografisch und sprachlich Räume aus und erforschen so die erwähnten Aspekte.
Persistent Disturbance

The video performance „Persistent Disturbance“ visualizes the three-month travel route through South America absurdly. A short sound performance was created at each point where the two artists paused. The performer runs tirelessly with a horn honking through the different landscapes of the Andes. Through this experience not only the different places are shown, but simultaneously an acoustic scanning of the respective places is created.

Der Performer rennt unermüdlich mit einem Horn hupend durch die verschiedenen Land- schaften der Anden. Durch diese Erfahrung werden nicht nur die verschiedenen Orte gezeigt, sondern es entsteht gleichzeitig eine akustische Abtastung der jeweiligen Orte. [/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]
